Obama administration comes through with border-security bill

Thrilled that Obama is expected to sign a border-security bill today, I amalready bracing myself for the backlash from several friends who happen to havea less than favorable view of our Democratic President. These would bethe same people who have been passionately disturbed by the federal override ofArizona’s Senate Bill 1070 and who have been incredibly zealous in theirattacks of the federal government failure to step up and secure our Mexicanborder. (Coincidentally, these soulful buddies also tend to screech aboutthe evils of “big government,” a fault in basic logic that I have yet toreconcile.)
The intent of the new bill appears to be very clear: to provide additionalsecurity and protection to U.S. border towns and states and to decrease thefurther influx of illegal immigrants and drug trafficking. It will alsocreate jobs in the southwest U.S. and cultivate relationships with Mexico as wemove forward to further target border gang and drug operations.
But, it will cost money. Like, six-hundred million dollars orso. That’s a lot of money. I predict that this fact is where thefervent opposition will come in. I am sure that this will be the sourceof many a negative slant that my Republican friends will inevitably place uponthe passing of this bill. And, I understand. We do also havethis deficit issue with which to contend. Especially with these wars thatwe’re still fighting abroad. (No reminder of who started thosenecessary.) And, what with healthcare and all. (It’s abouttime.) But, maybe it’ll boost the economy in some way. I don’tknow; I’m not much of an economist, what with being a Democrat and all.
The nay-sayers will also point out the convenient timeliness of thisdecision. It must just be a means of the pesky Democrats thwartingRepublican ridicule in the upcoming elections, with illegal immigration havingbeen slated as the key issue. But, I really don’t think that should be ofrelevance. Those darned Republicans wanted it, and they got it. Can’t say Obama doesn’t listen to the people, right? (Plus, perhaps theywon’t have to spend as much money on their anti-Democrat campaigns now.)
So, the price of freedom (or border security) rises. But, hopefully, the pervading sense of Obama disdain will decrease. My intuition does nothave high expectations of the latter. And, sick as I am of hearing aboutit, I’m sure that my Republican comrades will tell me all about it.

Arizonaillegal immigration law is a clone of the Federal ICE 287 program
When Senor Wences, Felipe Calderon, from Mexico criticizes Arizona’s law, something is blatantly wrong.
